The art of the Gondola

Itinerary to the discovery of the characteristic boat in Venice

Visit of the Naval Historical Museum, where it's exhibited the model St. Trovaso's squero, the gondola belonged to the "dogaressa" Peggy Guggenheim, other historical gondolas, as well as bows from the XVIIIth century to today, tools and other objects of great artistic and historical interest such as the reconstruction of the Bucintoro, the ceremony ship used by the Doge in the day of the Ascension for the Wedding of the sea.

The visit continues in a privileged place where to learn how the gondolas were made when Venice was at its apex power: the Foundation Querini Stampalia, that still preserves abode, library, file, art collections and furnishings of the noble Venetian family.

The center is in Maria Formosa square, in a palazzetto of the '500 that, in recent times, has seen the intervention of great architectures as Carlo Scarpa.

Lunch in a typical bacaro where to taste Venetian specialty.

The itinerary ends with the visit of a squero, the yard where these unique boats in the world are built.

If you want to bring an authentic Venetian memory at home, we advise a stop in Giuliana Longo's small shop, manufacturer of caps and hats since 1901; here you find the best production in Venice in fact of hats, the authentic gondolier cap: a kind of Basque with a pompon.
